October 27, 2024 - 08:56 PM
Welcome back to Top8! I want to send a huge thank you out to everyone who supported our recent 2024 membership drive. Thank you for taking us one step closer. Please send all prophecies of doom to wtsq.org/contact. I am really excited to bring you all some new songs this week, so let's jump right in. Heavy Lungs - Get Out You know that Idles song Danny Nedelko? Well, it's about the dude in H...

Welcome back to Top8 where we ask you to top at least 8. If you're into that anyway. This is a week where I had way more tracks that I could include in this space, so you are just getting the things I loved the most. This is the Indian curry of new music. And just like a curry, it's HOT baby! Please send all recipes to WTSQ.org/contact Before we even get started today, I want to mention WTSQ's 2024 Member Drive taking place October 19th - 26th. This year we are asking you to keep WTSQ from becoming a Spirit Halloween location by becoming a sustaining member and keeping us on the air. Sustaining members kick in just a few dollars a month. This support plus The Dare - GirlsA......

Time for another Top8. I know what you're saying to yourself – "if only I had WTSQ, but in a text format with a shitty, opinionated attitude and constant references to shoegaze". Well, here you go. I aim to please (ish). Please send all selfies taken at the Sierra Ferrell show to wtsq.org/contact. The Cure - Alone I honestly thought this day would never come. New music from The Cure. More than that, a single released ahead of a new album that comes out in only about a month. We lived to hear this. The track is called "Alone" and it's… actually really, really good. It's kind of wild to me that this is a band that last released music more than a decade and a half ago......

We are halfway through September and still trying to escape from the tyranny of summer. 85F is hot to me. 90-something can go straight to hell. I haven't wanted to leave the apartment in months. This time of year is so depressing to me. Even at night, it's humid and hateful. It's hard for me to imagine that people crossed the landbridge into Alaska, came down into this continent, went east, and stopped here. In this valley. And stayed. Maybe they knew we'd have an Aldi one day. God knows. Send your theories to wtsq.org/contact. At least WTSQ is giving you the coolest music in history to compensate. Let's get into some new stuff. Ethel Cain - For Sure (American Football......

Welcome back to Top8. Hope everyone has had a good holiday weekend. Before I worked for the county, I worked basically every single Labor Day, while my boss had the day off. It's worth observing how deeply wrong that is. It's also unmistakable how great new music is (that's what we call a fluid transition in the business, kids). Lots of great stuff this week, including the new Fontaines D.C., Gillian Welch & David Rawlings, and The Last Dinner Party. Send your Labor Day vegan BBQ recipes to wtsq.org/contact. Fontaines D.C. - In The Modern World I want to start by looking at the entire new Fontaines D.C called "Romance". This is something of a departure from their previous......

I may have run out of ways to intro these blogs. Wait, actually, I could say that I don't have an intro. That buys me another fortnight. I have had an unusually good few weeks filled with people I care about and things that matter to me. Some of that has been new music, and I am glad to share it with you. Send all reasons to live to wtsq.org/contact. Father John Misty - I Guess Time Just Makes Fools of Us All Starting things off with some Father John Misty. I could give you a mini bio of the guy right here. I won't. His name isn't John Misty. He isn't a Father. But FJM is a pretty divisive artist. A lot of people just plain hate him. He's worth paying attention to though, and......

Emily Beane back with another Top8. I had too much stuff for 8 songs this week, and I don't have the time to make it Top18, so maybe you're getting some of those next time. I know that your hearts are broken. Please send all breakup texts to wtsq.org/contact Honeyglaze - Don't Honeyglaze is a London band which got started back in 2021. They have an album and some singles to check out. Today, we are getting into the recent single "Don't." This is post-punk music somewhere between Savages and Guerilla Toss but with a lot of other influences (on other tracks, they feel a lot more like Snail Mail or Soccer Mommy). I love the recording on "Don't." It sounds like this tight three piece is......

Welcome back to Top8! We here at the station just celebrated our 9th year as the world's finest radio station, and I personally want to thank each and every one of our amazing supporters. We would not be here without you. It was also great to see all the radio family and our friends who came out for the anniversary party. It was a lowkey thing this year, but it's always a huge thing for me to see these people. There is a ton of great music to talk about this week. Sometimes the moment I hear a new track, I immediately add it to the playlist for Top8. This week, they were all like that. If you ever run across a great new track, send it on over to wtsq.org/contact. Noun -......

I hope everyone had a good time going to or avoiding the Regatta. I have spent a substantial amount of the last couple weeks sitting completely naked four feet away from a fan on full blast. I am sure that one day it will be safe to go outside again, but I may need someone to give me a heads up first before I dare get dressed and pop my head out. Send all weather reports to wtsq.org/contact Let's get into some music. LIINES - Holding On The first time I heard LIINES, I thought the vocalist was Corin Tucker from Sleater-Kinney (one of my all time favorite bands). I should have known that it wasn't because LIINES is better than anything that S-K have released in about a decade.......
